Southern New Hampshire University opened an Esports arena Friday. The arena contains gaming chairs, computers and space for fans to watch the action. SNHU has a varsity Esports team with 43 scholarship players.Esports team director Timothy Fowler said the arena was built to fit a live audience to cheer teams on, and for the team to share a space.”Their ability to communicate with each other is definitely up in here,” Fowler said.Varsity player Bradley Tousignant said he loves being in the arena with other people who love doing what he does.”It absolutely makes a huge difference to have everybody sitting here next to each other,” Tousignant said. “You get the adrenaline flowing, you can hear the fans in the arena, you have the casters hyping you up as you play.”The team competed from their own homes or dorm rooms prior to the arena’s completion. The space has enough room for graphic design, video production and streaming capabilities on social media platforms like Twitch. The facility was set to open in March 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. The arena is open to other students when the team is not there.
